I'm looking forward to the coming meeting. Our next meeting on the 19th will
be strictly a business meeting. We will hold a quick election for VP and
then talk about the clubs future. I was trying to think about theme's for
other meeting that would be fun and yet interesting to most hams and a few
things came to mind.
The one thing that's really got me excited it an idea of demonstrating the
lost art of "Lecher Wires" Back in the days when I started out Ham Radio
and had no money, that was one way I measured frequency.. It's also a great
way to demonstrate SWR. This will be a flash back to before everything was
digital and some things were just 'good enough' ! Back when crystal
control transmitters ruled and a one tube, home built, 6J6 transmitter
allowed me to communicate around the world. I remember my first contact
with that transmitter. I don't think my feet touched the ground again for
days. It still gets me excited as I think back .. Ah, anyway - you get the
idea.
I also would like to devote a meeting to oscilloscopes. Everyone has heard
of them, but have you seen a sine wave and see how the wavelength changes
with a change in frequency? The scope is a valuable tool in the arsenal of
tools in the electronics world. I happened to look at the General Class
license manual, and the only question I could find on an oscilloscope was
something like 'What is a device that has a horizontal and vertical
amplifier". Yikes.. I think we can do a lot better then that.
I want to allow hands on at most meetings. While a lecture can be
interesting. It's a lot more fun if you can get your hand on things. I
just want to put the 'Fun" back into Ham Radio for everyone. Most of us in
the club have a license. We just need to spark your imagination!..
I hope to see everyone at the next meeting,
